Trump Envoy Says Iran Could Produce Nuclear Material Soon
Speaking with a news outlet, Witkoff notes that Iran has enriched uranium up to 60%, which he says surpasses the requirements for civilian nuclear applications.
“They’re probably a week away from having industrial-grade bomb-making material,” Witkoff said. “That’s really dangerous. So they can’t have that.”
He explains that prior to talks with Tehran, Trump instructed him and Jared Kushner that the US would maintain a “zero enrichment” policy and seek the return of stockpiled nuclear material. “There have been some very hard red lines drawn,” Witkoff added.
He also questions why Iran, despite heavy US pressure and a strong naval presence in the region, has not formally declared that it is not pursuing nuclear weapons.
Additionally, Witkoff confirms that, under Trump’s direction, he met with Reza Pahlavi to discuss developments in Iran, including recent protests. He describes Pahlavi as someone concerned for his country but stresses that US policy will follow Trump’s approach.
There has not yet been any official response from Iran regarding Witkoff’s statements.
