Tehran Declares One-Day Shutdown Amid Severe Cold

(MENAFN) Iranian officials have declared that schools and public offices in Tehran will remain closed on Wednesday in an effort to conserve energy during an intense cold spell, a news agency reported on Tuesday.

According to the province’s task force for energy efficiency, the suspension will apply to all schools and universities, government departments, institutions, organizations, and commercial centers.

However, facilities providing medical care, emergency rescue, and relief services will continue operating. Banks will also remain open, though only through a limited number of branches.

Weather forecasts indicate that Tehran’s temperature will plunge to minus 6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday evening, with daytime highs expected to reach just 2 degrees Celsius.
